Custom configuration is available across our current card range. Confirm the speed, preloaded content and markings for the selected card alongside your workload, budget and protection requirements. YOULEN products and customization services
If your device already provides encryption, start with card supply and preloading. If you need protection implemented within the card, we first confirm the controller, firmware, functions and platform requirements.
For encryption, sensitive information or long operating periods, we recommend prioritizing card quality and stability alongside price. Review endurance, temperature suitability, sustained writing and configuration consistency, then validate the card in your target device.
Three device applications to consider
Published examples from Axis, Siemens and Philips show how device requirements differ.
Cameras and fleet video recorders
When selecting an encrypted SD card for a camera, check whether an unauthorized person can read recordings after removing the card, and how authorized users export recordings while maintaining loop recording. The card-encryption tool documented in Axis OS LTS 2026 clears the card before encrypting newly written data. Plan initialization and preservation of existing recordings together. Axis documentation

Industrial gateways and data-acquisition devices
Identify which recipes, parameters or field records need protection. Distinguish access after card removal, during equipment servicing and while the device is running. The directory-encryption function described in the Siemens 828D control software 5.25 SP1 manual protects /oem, /user and their subdirectories, with defined recovery requirements. Siemens manual, section 9.8
Tell YOULEN: the device and operating system, files to protect, writing workload, temperature, and maintenance and card-replacement requirements.
Professional recording and audio devices
Copying an encrypted original and exporting a decrypted file require different access controls. Encryption on the Philips DPM8000 is limited to the DSS Pro speech-file format and uses SpeechExec for configuration and playback. Philips manual, English page 26
Tell YOULEN: the device, recording format, software, playback or transcription workflow, capacity and quantity. If your goal is to restrict unauthorized playback of paid audio content, state that separately.
The encryption approach determines card preparation
When sourcing an encrypted SD card, first establish where encryption is implemented.
| Project situation | What needs to be confirmed |
|---|---|
| The device already provides encryption | The device team explains activation, unlocking, export and recovery; YOULEN matches the card configuration and preparation requirements. |
| The customer supplies encrypted files or a system image | Confirm the approved version, writing verification, how the target device reads the content, and whether each device requires separate initialization. |
| Protection is required within the card | Confirm functions, tools, interfaces and limitations with the card-controller or firmware provider, then establish production and device requirements. |
A device can encrypt data stored on an ordinary memory card. Linux dm-crypt, for example, provides encryption at the system’s block-device layer. Linux documentation
Dedicated cards can also work in compatible devices after preconfiguration. Swissbit iShield Camera supports loop recording without changes to the host device, but still requires initialization, authenticated access and compatibility checks. Swissbit product information
Does a standard algorithm allow universal decryption?
Decryption requires the correct key and matching parameters, even when the algorithm and software are public. AES—Advanced Encryption Standard—is a public symmetric encryption standard. AES-256 uses a 256-bit key. NIST standard
An access password must also be distinguished from the key that encrypts the data. Swissbit’s published workflow includes generating an AES key during activation, setting a personal identification number (PIN), and using its tool to authenticate access. Official workflow
If you require customer-controlled keys or a separate key for each card or device, specify this early. Key generation, import, custody and recovery depend on the implementation. A factory reset may make existing data inaccessible. Encrypted files may still be copied, so acceptance testing should establish whether an unauthorized person can read or use the copied content.
How customers, solution providers and YOULEN work together
One team may cover several roles.
| Participant | Main responsibility |
|---|---|
| Customer or project owner | Define protection goals, access rights and after-sales requirements; arrange target-device tests and confirm acceptance. |
| Device integrator or software team | Provide the supported formats and activation, unlocking, export and recovery steps; identify any software changes needed. |
| YOULEN | Confirm the card specification and sample configuration; perform the agreed preloading and numbering, with any encryption-initialization tools and steps confirmed for the project. |
| Card-controller or firmware provider | Where card-side functions are involved, confirm their scope, tools, interfaces and limitations, and assist with issue analysis. |
Record the agreed card configuration, each party’s preparation work and sample acceptance criteria.
How to validate samples
The customer arranges testing in the actual device. Agree the card configuration, device/software version, workload, test steps, expected results and tester in advance, then record actual results and pass/fail decisions for each check. Use test content and test credentials; cover both protection and normal operation.
| Test group | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Normal operation and workload | Run the agreed workload and check authorized unlocking, startup, recording or playback, sustained writing and full-card behavior. |
| Access after removal or copying | Power down as required, remove the test card and try reading it and copied files without authorized credentials. Record what remains visible and usable. |
| Authorized export | Export with the approved software and credentials. Check that the intended recipient can use the files and whether protection remains or is deliberately removed. |
| Power loss, replacement and recovery | Use the agreed power-loss and restart procedure; test updates, card or device replacement and recovery. Record which resets destroy existing test data. |
A file that will not open on a computer is not necessarily encrypted. A successful copy operation does not, by itself, show protection has failed.
Starting a project and preparing for batch supply
Provide four groups of information: the device and operating system; card format, capacity and other configuration requirements; protection goals and existing software capabilities; and sample and batch quantities. After your inquiry, specifications and shareable test files can be discussed by email. Do not submit real encryption keys, passwords or sensitive customer data through the public form.
Once samples pass, confirm content versions, writing verification, numbering, initialization and card-replacement responsibilities before batch preparation. If independent device keys are required, copying one encrypted master image should not be treated as deployment of independent keys. cryptsetup documentation
For the writing workflow, see data preloading and verification. Discuss batch branding and packaging through Bulk & OEM Supply.
YOULEN provides a one-year warranty and can disclose the bill of materials (BOM), with material control agreed for the order. For a proposed material change, we provide new samples at least one month in advance for testing and confirmation. Agree who handles data backups and key recovery before batch supply.
