When should I check or replace a recording card?
Check recent recordings. Act on repeated errors now. Plan routine replacement from usage, not age alone.
The same card can do very different amounts of work
Workload illustration only, using the conditional 500 whole-card-write planning assumption for an agreed YOULEN Standard configuration—not a tested lifetime. A setup saving 8 GB per hour writes 64 GB in eight hours, or 192 GB over a full day. The assumed daily data triples.
| Illustration: 128GB, assumed 500 full writes | 8 hours/day | 24 hours/day |
|---|---|---|
| Assumed video saved each day | 64 GB | 192 GB |
| 128GB × 500 whole-card writes ÷ daily GB | 1,000 days | About 333 days |
| 80% scheduling point | 800 days | About 267 days |
These large numbers are workload arithmetic, not service-life forecasts. The 500-write input applies only to a YOULEN Standard configuration agreed on that basis. It is not a measured remaining-life reading or a reason to ignore faults for years.
Keep a practical spare and checking routine
- Prepare the spare before it is needed
Use a capacity and class the device supports. A smaller spare can keep recording temporarily, but old clips will be replaced sooner. Check a newly saved clip before putting it aside.
- Check files, not only warning lights
Enable recording-failure alerts when available. Periodically find and play a recent clip. Choose the interval for how important the recording is; no universal interval fits every installation.
- Act on symptoms immediately
Repeated format prompts, missing new clips or persistent write errors need attention now. Preserve needed footage. The planned date does not overrule a current fault.
Plan an early check using the 500 full-card-write assumption
For a YOULEN Standard card supplied on this basis, use about 500 complete card-capacity writes as a planning assumption. Confirm that basis for your supplied configuration with YOULEN. Capacity options do not indicate product availability.
Not sure about daily storage? Use a recording sample or ask YOULEN for help. Copy the “Video saved per day” figure from that calculator.
Enter the daily amount written to see a planning interval.
Count from when a new card enters use. These figures are not a tested lifetime guarantee or the remaining life of an old card. Temperature, device behavior and actual use can change the outcome. Check recent recordings routinely; investigate warnings or missing clips immediately, without waiting for this date.

References & device-specific guidance
Standards explain ratings. Device-maker references apply to their own models and do not prove YOULEN compatibility. Follow your device instructions.

An example of device/card troubleshooting. The maintenance record is a planning aid, not a manufacturer-mandated replacement interval.
- Garmin dash-camera maintenance guidance
Supports periodic maintenance and replacement for repeated recording. Its model-specific formatting interval is not a universal card rule or evidence for the 500-write assumption.
